The switchbox project's purpose is to bring the work of Malden artists out onto the city's streets, with the intent of beautifying the
city and showcasing the arts. If you are an artist who lives or works in Malden, start thinking of how your art would look on these boxes!
Give your community a sense of warmth and personality, while getting your art out there.
Currently, we are able to offer a $150 honorarium to approved artists.
We will continue accepting applications on a rolling basis this season.
An application with full details can be downloaded here. Send completed applications and any questions to Malden Arts at
info@maldenarts.com or call 781-330-9053.
How it works:
Working with a detailed map of eligible switchboxes in the city, Malden Arts and the Citizen's Engagemant Committee of Malden
match artists with a switchbox.
Each decision is based on several factors including the need and visibility of the site and the best fit between artist and location.
Artists can request specific boxes, but the match is not guaranteed.
Due to the limited number of remainig boxes, and the committee's desire for fairness and diversity, there is a 2 box per artist limit.
Note this does not include Malden school art classes.
Designs related to corporations or businesses, religious or political organizations, and any other organization with the exception of
local Malden non-profits are not eligible.
Malden Arts has the right to paint over any design in the future if the appearance deteriorates due to weather or vandalism.
