Malden Arts ARTLine Franklin Street COVID Memorial
Franklin Street @ Northern Strand Community Trail, Malden MA
The COVID pandemic is something universally experienced in different ways; unlike other diseases, we have all been affected by this one.
In creating a mural for this memorial we would like people to express something about their own or their community’s experience.
Our community in Malden came together for each other in so many ways: people got to work making masks, Malden Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a great organization that was formed to help others, community refrigerators have provided food for people in need. At the same time, people have lost family members, lived in isolation, schooled and worked from home. Truly, these are unprecedented times.
We are so grateful for our essential workers, working long hours to save humanity.
Over the past two years, Mother Nature came out in full force, the earth became quieter, we got out for walks, and cleaned up garbage. Work, school, and socializing moved to Zoom. People experienced anxiety, fear, family time, and true friendship–and also much sorrow.
How has the Covid pandemic affected you?
These are all things we have invited artists to expressed in this mural.
We look forward to seeing and reading creations that capture these experiences.
